MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Women's Outdoor track and field team found success over the last three days, finishing first in their home meet - the Berry Multis and Field Day Invitational.
Berry won the meet over Southern Athletic Association rivals - Centre and Oglethorpe and commendable Division II opponents - Montevallo, Shorter, Clayton State and West Alabama.
Highlights:
-Onoyeme Egure continued her undefeated streak winning the Shot Put with a new PR of 12.14m which breaks her own school record. That throw is the third farthest in the Nation in D3 midway through the outdoor season.
-Anna Rose followed up her win in the 1500m Friday night with a another win in the 800m today at a time of 2:17.41
-Freshman, Lucy Nicholson once again lowers her own school record in the 100m with a new PR of 12.35
-Courtney Brown, Sadie Phillips, and Macy Murdock all PR in the Javelin to finish 5-6-8
-Kris Williams tied for the win in the High Jump with Julia Shipes and Madi Duke finishing in 4th and 5th place
-Junior Avery Jones had a big PR in the Shot Put to place 3rd with a throw of 12.71m which is #2 in the SAA and #3 in the South Region. Teammate Malysha Winston placed 6th with a season PR of 12.01m and moves to #3 in the SAA
-Macy Murdock placed 5th in the Long Jump with an outdoor season best of 5.28m
-Madeline Hubbert, Emilee Easley, and Ella Pine jump to a 3-4-6 finish in the Pole Vault
-Freshman Julianne Shirley ran to a new PR in the 400m with a 1:00.39 good for 10th place overall
Coach Luke Syverson commented on the win, "I am very proud of our effort over the three day meet. The women dealth with a number of weather challenges with lighting delays on Friday evening and wind today.
It was a great way to send off our seniors at home and prepare us for the SAA Championships in two weeks. There were a lot of lifetime and seasonal PRs that were not in the top 8 that were great efforts."
Following the win, the team will be back in action at Sewanee on Saturday for the Mountain Laurel Open.
