Box Score ROME, Ga. - Viking Men's Tennis earned redemption today on senior day as they defeated SAA opponent Hendrix 7-2.
After yesterday's narrow loss to Rhodes College, the men came prepared with their best tennis as Noah Koch / Diego Lopez at first doubles and Jake Chapman / Aiden Benoualid at third doubles both closed the doors on their opponents 8-6 and 8-3, respectively. Drayton Matus and Bohdan Higley found themselves trailing early in their match at second doubles, and were able to narrow the gap to within one break of serve but ultimately succumbed to Rhodes College 8-5.
The men rallied from their momentum built during the doubles matches to start with two strong wins, as Diego Lopez won 6-0, 6-4 at second singles and Drayton Matus won 6-2, 6-2 at third singles. With the match scores now at 4-1, Berry College only needed one more win to clinch but this would present a challenge as Noah Koch lost 6-4, 6-2 at first singles despite a valiant effort. However, Aiden Benoualid prevailed 6-1, 6-3 at sixth singles, and this spurred Jake Chapman to finish 6-4, 6-4 at fourth singles and for Jace Goode at fifth singles to mount a comeback, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Having secured a 7-2 match win over Hendrix College, the men will look to climb further during their next match this Wednesday against Wallace State Community College.
