VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - - The Vikings outshot the Captains 19 to 16, but the Berry College women's soccer team tied with Christopher Newport University, 1-1, on Saturday night.
The draw moved BC to 1-0-1 and Chris. Newport to 2-0-1.
The first goal of the game came in the 12th minute when the Captains' Victoria Perry dribbled into the box and found the back of the net. The goal put Christopher Newport ahead, 1-0.
Berry's Maggie Midkiff answered back in the 26th minute with a goal of her own. She dribbled past a defender and connected on a shot into the left side of the goal. It was her third goal of the young season.
While the Vikes produced seven corner kicks to the Captains' five, they did not score again. The double overtime game finished tied, 1-1.
Logan Williams started the game in the goal for Berry. She collected two saves and allowed a goal in her 41:58 minutes of work. Melissa Sanchez finished the game in the net and earned two saves.
"This was a wonderful game played by two teams determined not to lose," said Berry Head Coach Lorenzo Canalis. "I am proud of the effort and character we showed tonight."
BC plays at LaGrange College in their next match on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
