ROME, Ga. -- Led by freshman Lynnsey Danford's first hat-trick in a Viking uniform, the Berry College women's soccer team defeated Millsaps College, 6-0, on Friday afternoon.
The win was the fourth straight for the Vikes, improving them to 7-2-1 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the Southern Athletic Association. The loss dropped the Majors to 2-9-1 and 0-3.
Danford's first goal came in the eleventh minute as she broke away and got behind the goalkeeper, putting the Vikes ahead, 1-0. She tallied again in the 18th minute off a pass from Samantha Schoppy. Danford's final goal came in the 31st minute. Maggie Midkiff earned the assist on the play.
Midkiff and Meridith Beretta each added a goal of their own. An own-goal by the Majors pushed the score to 6-0 by the end of the first half.
While BC did not tally again, the Vikes held on for the 6-0 shutout.
For the Majors, Olivia Gattuso and Elise Davis split the game in goal. They collected three and four saves respectively, in the loss.
Berry led in both shots (32-1) and corner kicks (3-1).
The Vikes will compete against Birmingham-Southern College in their next SAA match-up on Sunday, Oct. 11. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
