Vikings earned 4-0 shutout at Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Maggie Midkiff scored two goals as Berry College won at Covenant College, 4-0, on Wednesday night. Teammate Tessa Piety added one goal and one assist for BC in the shutout.

The Vikings improved to 3-1 and the Scots dropped to 2-4.

"Tonight was a good, collective effort by the entire team," said Berry Head Coach Lorenzo Canalis. "There were some exciting passing combinations and outstanding goals."

After suffering its first loss on Sunday—a defeat to top-ranked Trinity—the Vikings wasted no time returning to form. Tessa Piety tallied from Rachel LeRoy to give the visitors a 1-0. Piety's shot came from just inside the 18-yard box.

Midkiff scored a goal from close range off an assist from Piety in the 25th minute. Seven minutes later, Bella Fornuto assisted on a goal that pushed the score to 3-0.

The lone tally in the second half came in the 59th minute. Sara Dillon finished a shot from 18 yards out for the final score. Caitlin Crawford earned the assist on the scoring play.

For the game, the Vikings led in shots, 13-5. Midkiff had five shots, four of which were on-goal. Both clubs took two corner kicks.

Jackie McGivney improved to 3-1 after the victory. She shared the shutout with Maggie Piety, who played the final 10 minutes. Neither goalkeeper faced a shot on goal

For Covenant, Lucy Johnson collected five saves.

The Vikings host Kenyon College on Saturday. Kickoff is 1 p.m. at Ford Field.
