Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – Despite senior
Jana Morning's solid efforts on both the offensive and defensive side of the floor, the Berry women's basketball team fell to Millsaps 46-41 on Sunday.
Millsaps (5-0, 4-0 SAA) exhibited a strong defensive presence by holding Berry (0-2, 0-2 SAA) to 24.1 percent from both the field and the three-point line. The Majors' bench also prevailed as they outscored the Vikings 29-5.
Morning led the Vikings with 16 points and eight rebounds while
Madeline Sandman added nine points, five rebounds and two assists in the Sunday showdown.
Both Millsaps and Berry saw some early success on the offensive side, but Millsaps would hold a 22-21 lead at the half. To start the third quarter, Berry connected with back-to-back jumpers from both
Capri Frazier and Morning to regain the lead, but Millsaps would quickly answer back with a couple of free throws from Devan Caldwell.
Going into the fourth quarter, the game was tied at 31-31 but a few missed shots and costly fouls would give the Majors the opportunity they needed to secure the win.
