MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry women's basketball team suited up for the last time in Cage Arena this afternoon to face off against the Sewanee Tigers in the 2024-2025 SAA Quarterfinals, falling to Sewanee 72-66.
Senior
Kenadie Lee's 19-point was not enough to advance the team to Mississippi. Essentially it was the Vikings slow start that doomed them in today's game.
Sewanee came out hot and ready to compete notching 12 threes in comparison to Berry's 6. Sophomore
Jeryn Jarrett opened up scoring for the game, but halfway through Sewanee had already taken a 7-point lead with three triples in the first five minutes (15-8). Scoring went a bit stagnant for the remainder of the first until
Kenadie Lee scored the final points of the quarter on a made layup to head to the second down 18-13.
Back-to-back opening buckets from
Karlee Armstrong brought the game within two points early in the second quarter, but each team would just trade baskets until the final seconds as Sewanee nailed a late three to have the nine-point advantage at the half, 34-25.Â
After facing some foul trouble in the first half, freshman
Briaiah Lewis took back to the court in the third, carrying the Vikings with 13-points in the quarter alone to try and spark some momentum for the home squad. Her efforts were effective and cut the lead to six as the teams headed into the fourth quarter.
With the season on the line, both teams squared away for a rough match, tagging 22points each in the fourth. Three consecutive three balls from Sewanee hurt the Vikings in the long run, although they were answering the baskets with layups, the total momentum and extra point the three ball brought to Sewanee was unmatched.
Ultimately, as the game closed out Berry tried fouling to regain ground but the Tigers sunk some key free throws to take the first round SAA game over the Vikings.
