GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Berry College Vikings completed a three game sweep of the Southwestern Pirates as they won 21-5 and then 15-0 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon in Texas.
Game 1:
The Berry College Vikings took game two vs. the Southwestern Pirates with a promising 21-5 win with an offensive slugfest.
John Mark Christopher got the start and picked up the win throwing 6 innings of 3 earned run ball with 5 strikeouts.
After an early run in the bottom of the second for the Pirates offense the Vikings offense took off after that.
In the top of the third the Berry offense tied things up with a sacrifice fly from
Austin Jetmore scoring
Chaz Moore.
In the top of the fifth after a
Garrett Lang score put the Vikings up early 2-1, they never looked back. Several batters later,
Tanaka Mukono hit a grand slam to give the Viking offense an early 6-1 lead.
Mukono doubled an inning later bringing in another run to give them another one making it 7-1.
The Vikings grabbed two in the seventh and four in the eighth, giving them a promising 14-5 lead after eight innings.
In the top of the ninth the Vikings offense exploded for seven runs led by a
Riley Uhls three run home run.
The Vikings took the series and game one on the day with a comfortable 21-5 win.
Game 2:
The Vikings took off where they left off in game three of the series with a demolishing 15-0 win with another strong offensive showing.
Eric Fountain got the start and picked up the win going 5 innings allowing no runs with 4 hits, no walks, and 4 strikeouts.
The Vikings offense was still relying on their game one momentum and got started with an early 4-0 lead in the first led by a two rbi triple from
Jacob Bridges.
In the top of the second
Austin Jetmore doubled bringing home
Riley Uhls and
Tanaka Mukono to bring the lead to 6-0.
In the third inning the Vikings offense slugged their way to a seven-run inning with hits from
Tanaka Mukono, Bridges, and
Chase Edmonds giving them a comfortable 13-0 lead through three.
The Vikings finished the game off with a shutout with scoreless innings from
Brady Greene and
Jon Strydom.
The Berry squad delivered a weekend sweep in Texas and will host other Texas SAA opponent Trinity next weekend in Mount Berry for a three game set starting Thursday at 6 p.m.
