MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry College men's baseball team started their third conference series of the year Thursday afternoon, taking on Trinity University. Berry fell behind early and never recovered, losing 13-4.
Cam Welsh, reigning SAA Pitcher of the Week, set the Tigers down in order in the top of the first. Trinity then added six runs through the second and third innings to create an early 6-0 lead. The Viking offense had been hitting the ball hard through the first three innings, but could not find any hits going into the fourth.
Tanaka Mukono, also receiving SAA Player of the Week honors, continued his hot bat and got Berry on the board with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth.
Cooper Chunn entered the game on the mound in the middle of the fifth inning, limiting the Tigers to one run and making the score 7-2. However, Trinity tacked on another run in the sixth, extending the lead to 8-2 until
Riley Uhls hit a solo home run of his own to quickly get that run back. The Tiger offense continued to add on runs, increasing the lead to 11-4 in the seventh. The remainder of the game played out relatively easily for Trinity as Berry did not threaten to make a run at winning the game, ultimately dropping the first game of the series.
Berry will be back in action tomorrow April 3rd, at 1 P.M. to finish out the series in a doubleheader with the second game following immediately after.
