Vikings Can't Keep Pace with No. 24 Tigers

San Antonio, Texas - The Berry College men's basketball team (5-9, 1-2 SAA) fell 87-66 to the Trinity University Tigers on the road on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers took the lead from the tip but the Vikings fought to keep it close early on as Canon Armstead hit a three to tie it 5-5. The Tigers would quickly reestablish their advantage as they went up 18-11 with 15:02 remaining. The teams then traded baskets until Drew Winegarden nailed a three to make it 24-40 with 11:58 left. The Tigers once again stretched their lead to seven but the Vikings stayed close with Ethan Morgan finding Bennett Frazer under the basket to cut their deficit to 31-27 with 8:24 left. That's as close as the Vikings would get as the Tigers stretched their lead to 49-35. The Vikings got the final say of the half as Isaac Plavich drained a big three to pull the Vikings within 49-38 at halftime. 

The Vikings opened the second half on an 8-2 run with two big three pointers from Winegarden to pull within 51-46 with lots of time remaining. The Tigers would answer to go back up 55-46 but the Vikings kept coming as Winegarden hit another three followed by a tip-in from Nile King to cut their deficit to 55-51 with 14:12 to go. The Vikings tried to continue their rally but the Tigers answered to stretch their lead back out to 66-51. The Vikings got an answer with back to back layups from King and Cameron Pope to cut their deficit to 66-55 but that's as close as they got as the Tigers took over as the Vikings fell 87-66.

Winegarden led the Vikings with 15 points off the bench. 

The Vikings continue action at home as they host Centre in their conference home opener on Friday, January 16 at 8:00 PM.
