MOUNT BERRY Ga. - The Berry College Vikings were dominated by the visiting Rhodes College Lynx, the final score 24-13. With this loss the Vikings are 0-2 against conference opponents and 1-7 overall.
Beginning the first period, the Lynx gain control of the ball off of the initial face off. In just twenty-two seconds following the opening possession, Rhodes put the first point on the ball. Following the goal, the Vikings took control on the second faceoff. They brought it up the field and found an open shot, but the Lynx managed to save it and bring it down the other end to tack on another point making the score 2-0. After regrouping on a timeout, the Vikings once again won the face off and Andrew Duffy found Tad Zappa to stop the bleeding. They traded goals until the Vikings took the reins with six minutes left in the period, tying the score 4-4 on a goal from Caleb Johnston. Following a timeout of their own, the Lynx came back with renewed vigor and exploded for a run of their own, extending their lead back out to four to end the period up 8-4.
The Lynx kept their foot on the gas, quickly scoring the first goal of the second period to extend their lead to five. After that initial goal, The Vikings locked them down and William Lee earned the first point of the period off an assist from Tad Zappa bringing the deficit back down to five. But the Lynx shook off their slow start and exploded for three unanswered goals making the score 12-5. Joey Cuthbert found Tad Zappa to bring the score to six, but the wound was too big to stop the bleeding, and the Lynx added three more before the end of the period to make it 15-6.
Coming out of the half, the Lynx continued right where they left off. They dominated the third period, outscoring the Vikings 6-2 to end the period with a score of 21-8. With the game all but over, Rhodes took their foot off the gas and the Vikings outscored them 5-3 in the fourth quarter, making the final score 24-13.
The Berry College Vikings stay at home to take on the visiting Hendrix College Warriors Sunday, March 30th, at 1:00p.m.
