Softball Claims Senior Day Win

MOUNT BERRY, Ga.- In their Senior Day conference opener, the Vikings overwhelmed the Warriors of Hendrix College, achieving an 8-0 run-rule victory in game one and sustaining their momentum for a 9-2 win in game two.

Game One:

Starting in the circle for the Vikings (15-5, 2-0 SAA), senior Hannah Gore earned her seventh win of the season, striking out eight batters and giving up only one hit.

Elly Bennett created energy for the Vikings in the bottom of the second inning, crushing a ball to the right field fence for a stand-up triple. Erica Bennett singled for the first RBI of the game and was knocked in with a line drive to left field by Bradynn Belcher to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.

The Warriors (4-10, 0-2 SAA) scraped one hit at the top of the fourth inning, but Gore and the Viking defense quickly shut down any momentum.

Berry's offense ignited in the bottom of the sixth inning, stringing together hits to load the bases. An RBI walk by Kennedy Moody, followed by three RBIs from an Elly Bennett double, brought the Vikings close to the run-rule threshold with a 7-0 lead. Freshman Erica Bennett then roped a double for the walk-off 8-0 victory.

Game Two:

Ava Fouts remains undefeated in the circle, taking her seventh win of the season with five strike outs in her game two start.

The Warriors pushed one run in the top of the first inning, but the Berry offense responded with fire. With bases loaded, a hard-hit single by Elly Bennett allowed Fouts to score, tying the game back up at 1-1. Erica Bennett sent a double shot to the outfield, bringing in 3 runs for a 4-1 lead going into the 2nd inning.

Looking for insurance, the Vikings pushed five runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. A single to left field by Moody brought Ava Fouts and Sydney Goddard home (6-1). Moody was knocked in by Elly Bennett, who reached on error and scored on an RBI single by Katie Parker (8-1). The final run of the game for Berry was scored by Erica Bennett, who capitalized on a wild pitch (9-1).

Offense for the Warriors attempted to scrape back, stringing two hits together to push one run in the top of the 3rd inning (9-2).

Defense held down the fort behind Fouts, and the Vikings took a 9-2 victory to close out the double header.

The Vikings will be back in action Sunday at 12:00 PM, as they close out the series against Hendrix.
