DANVILLE, KY- Berry Men's Lacrosse kicked off conference play by traveling to Danville, Kentucky, to battle the Centre College Colonels. Unfortunately, the Vikings could not secure the win, losing to the Colonels 8-16.
From the first faceoff, the game was a physical battle for which the Vikings seemed unprepared. The Colonels took advantage by going on a six-goal run, ending the first quarter 0-6.
Starting the second quarter, the Vikings let up two more goals before the Vikings finally answered with goals from #3 Joey Cuthbert and #22 Owen Morini. However, the Colonels scored once more just before the half, making the score 2-10.
The second half started with Centre continuing to overtake the Vikings. However, there seemed to be new life for the Vikings in the third quarter. The Vikings came out being more physical, and the defense put an end to the onslaught of shots coming at their goalie, only letting up two goals in the third quarter. With renewed determination from the defense, the Vikings offense was able to match Colonels with two goals of their own, scored by #9 William Lee and #11 Ethan Perlakowski making the score 4-12.
The fourth quarter was much the same, as the Vikings matched the Colonels goal for goal, with efforts by #36 Robert Fenters, #0 Tad Zappa, #14 Finn McClendon, and #11 Ethan Perlakowski. The Vikings were able to put the ball in the back of the net, but their first half would come back to haunt them. The deficit would be too great to surmount, leaving the Vikings with their sixth loss of the season and the final score 8-16.
Vikings Lacrosse will be bringing conference home with their next game against the Rhodes College Lynx at Valhalla 6pm on March 28th.
