MOUNT BERRY, Ga.- Berry Men's Lacrosse took down Huntingdon 21-4 in their home opener for head Coach
Curtis Gilbert to capture his 150
th career win.
From start to finish, the game was all Vikings. Berry out shot the Hawks 69-18 to work the two goalies that Huntingdon threw out there.
Braxton Rich led the team with 4 goals while freshmen
William Lee and
Tyler Gabrielse each scored three (new career highs), and
Finn McClendon also tabbed in three goals of his own with two assists.
By the end of the first period, Berry was up 4-0 with two goals from Rich and starting goalie
Jacob Briggs holding the Hawks at zero on his way to his first career start and win between the pipes.
Huntingdon found some footing in the second to score four goals before the half, but Berry still outscored them in the period with six goals to boast themselves up 10-4 heading to halftime.
The second would be the last time Huntingdon saw a goal, as Berry shut them out the next 30 minutes. Berry found 11 more goals in the game with lots of help in gaining more possessions as Berry's defense forced 21 Huntingdon turnovers with 13 of them being caused.
As a team, they set season highs in points (36), assists (15), goals (21), shots (69), shots on goal (44), ground balls (45), and caused turnovers (13).
This win sets the Vikings up for conference play starting this weekend on the road at Centre. Berry will take on the Colonels on Saturday at 1:00 PM ET.
