Hampden Sydney, VA – Berry Men's Lacrosse continues to face challenges on the road, suffering a defeat against the Hampden-Sydney Tigers with a final score of 6-15.
The Vikings started slowly, as the Tigers came out strong, peppering the Vikings' goalie with shots and quickly establishing a two-goal lead making with 12 minutes left in the first quarter.
The Vikings responded when #5 Derek Black forced a turnover and initiated a fast break. Drawing a defender, he passed the ball to #22 Owen Morini, who canned a high heat stick side ripper into the top corner of the net, narrowing the score to 1-2.
However, the Tigers quickly retaliated, scoring three unanswered goals to conclude the first quarter 1-5.
Berry showed signs of life in the second quarter, ignited by an unassisted goal from #14 Finn McClendon, a key contributor to the Vikings' offense, bringing the score to 2-5.
The Tigers quickly answered, but the Vikings surged back with unassisted goals from #9 William Lee and #11 Ethan Perlakowski, tightening the game to 4-6 as they headed into halftime.
Unfortunately, the Berry had a mental lapse as they entered the third quarter, allowing the Tigers to capitalize with a four-goal run, pushing the score to 4-10 by the end of the quarter.
The final quarter offered little respite for the Vikings, who allowed another five goals while managing only two goals of their own. The Vikings fought to the end, keeping their heads held high, but the result culminated in a 6-15 loss to the Tigers.
Looking ahead, Berry Men's Lacrosse will return home for the first time this season to face LaGrange College. The team aims to defend its home turf and secure its first win.
