MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Women's Soccer has done it, they have claimed their first goal and victory of the season as they demolished LaGrange in a 4-0 victory this evening.
Berry Women's Soccer came out with a strong offensive push, immediately putting LaGrange College's defense under pressure. The Vikings' aggressive play was evident as
Teresa Rodriguez and
Margaret Eddins led a series of attacks. Rodriguez tested LaGrange goalkeeper Anna Wright multiple times with precise shots, but it was in the 34th minute that Rodriguez made her mark, converting a penalty kick after LaGrange's Makenzi Maltezo was issued a yellow card. This was Berry's first goal and lead of the 2024 season. Rodriguez is a transfer so this marked her first goal as a Viking!
As the first half progressed, Berry continued to dominate. Their relentless pressure paid off once more in the 38th minute when Eddins scored a goal with an assist from Rodriguez, extending Berry's lead to 2-0. The Vikings' ability to control possession and create scoring opportunities was a clear indicator of their strength and cohesion; once they found the back of the net, it was not turning back.
The Vikings maintained their high tempo and attacking mindset, with early attempts from Peyton Goolsby and Mia Ries testing Wright's resolve in the second half. The constant pressure from Berry's offense eventually led to a third goal in the 46th minute, with Ries finishing off a well-executed play to make it 3-0.
In the 51st minute, Mia McDougal added to the scoreline with a goal assisted by Nicole Knight, bringing the tally to 4-0.Â
Eddins and McDougal's goals were also their first as Vikings.
Defensively, Berry remained solid throughout the second period. Maggie Jones and her defensive line kept LaGrange's attackers at bay, ensuring that the clean sheet was preserved.Â
Berry returns to action at Pearson Field on Monday, September 23 against Maryville College, game time set for 7:00 PM ET.
