MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - In their Pack the House Night, the Berry College Vikings fought to a hard-earned 1-1 draw against the Maryville College Scots on Monday night at Bob Pearson Field.
Despite Maryville controlling 58% of possession, the Vikings made the most of their opportunities.
Maryville struck first in the 28th minute, with Ellie Schuld finding the net off an assist from Katie Corley. However, Berry responded swiftly just three minutes later, as Nicole Knight leveled the score with a composed finish from an Olivia Bryan assist. Knight's goal, her first of the season, showcased the Vikings' determination to stay in the contest.
Goalkeeper Maggie Jones was a standout for Berry, recording seven saves, including several crucial stops to deny Maryville's potent attack. Though Maryville had more shots on goal (11 to Berry's 8), the Vikings' defense held firm, especially in the second half when they were outshot 6-2.
Berry's disciplined defense limited Maryville to just one goal despite the Scots earning eight corner kicks and constantly pressuring in the final third.Â
Coach Brown says that the team "had a very specific plan for Maryville based on the film. I am very proud of how our players were disciplined i nexecuting the tactical plan!"
This result brings Berry's record to 1-4-3 on the season, with their next game being their first SAA matchup at Sewanee on Saturday
