MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings had a tough day with a Southern Athletic Association loss to the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern, 14-7.
After celebrating their ten seniors prior to the first faceoff, the Vikings were ready to take on the Panthers at Valhalla.
The teams traded goals in a back-and-forth affair for the first period and into the beginning of the second. With BSC striking first, the Vikings trailed by one for most of the opening minutes.
In the second, back-to-back goals from the Panthers lifted them to a 5-2 lead.
Michael McKenzie scored his second goal of the game to cut the deficit just under the ten-minute mark, but Birmingham-Southern closed out the first half with four goals to take the 9-3 lead heading to halftime.
McKenzie continued applying pressure offensively for the Vikings in effort to spark a comeback, his two goals early in the second half brought the game within four as
Michael Beirne chipped in a goal as well (10-6).Â
However, the Panthers went on a run again to end the period with three straight goals and the fourth consisted of a goal each for the teams as the Vikings fell at home.
Berry will be back in action on April 13 at Oglethorpe for their final regular season game of the season.
