ATLANTA, Ga. - Berry Men's Lacrosse finishes the regular season at 7-7 overall and 4-2 in the SAA with their large victory over the Stormy Petrels, 19-5.
With Oglethorpe transfer
Addison Irwin in the goal for the Vikings in the first half, he posted four saves in his winning performance.
Things started pretty quick for Berry's offense with leading scorer
Michael Beirne notching the first goal in the first two minutes. His goal was followed up by two more from teammates
Joey Cuthbert and
Ethan Perlakowski before the Petrels could find their way on the board at 3-1.
Perlakowski and Beirne each had a big goal to end the quarter with Perlawkoski scoring in the final 13 seconds and Beirne taking the last one with two seconds to go for a 5-1 Viking lead, all thanks to
Caleb Johnston's faceoff win.
In the second, Berry continued to have a field day with 10 goals scored in the 15-minute period. Lots of players were getting in on the action, as Berry had something to fight for in hopes to host the first round of the SAA tournament. Oglethorpe's fight back only gave them one more goal before halftime, being down 15-2.
The scoring became scarcer in the second half with each team responding to the others goals in a back and forth fashion until the clock hit 00:00.
For the game, Berry outshot the Stormy Petrels by more than 30 attempts and
Jakobi Leonard led the team with three caused turnovers.
Berry looks to retain this energy for the conference tournament beginning next weekend.
