MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Men's Lacrosse (2-5 overall) faced a tough Tigers team (6-2 overall) in a midweek game where they fell 18-9.
The Vikings took on yet another top ranked team with winning history in today's matchup. In hopes to build up their game for conference play starting this week, the Vikings started slow but outshined the Tigers in the second half.
Freshman
Evan Cuffe earned his first start in the goal for Berry, and the experienced Tigers roster took advantage starting off hot on a 9-0 run in the first period, holding the Viking scoreless across the first 15-minutes of play.
Berry picked it up to start the second, opening with the first two goals, one from
Michael McKenzie and the other by
Finn McClendon. However, the Tigers found four more goals to outscore the Vikings again and hold a 13-2 lead at the half.
The second half was won by Berry (7-5), with graduate
Addison Irwin now between the pipes for the Vikings. His nine saves sparked some momentum for the home team and brought the crowd back into the game.
Offensively, McKenzie and
Michael Beirne made things happen trading goals with one another, but it was too late as the clock expired leaving the Vikings wishing the first half never happened.
SAA play begins this weekend for Berry, they will host Centre on Saturday at 12:00 PM ET.
