MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Vikings Baseball opened up at home this afternoon with a thrilling win in game one of their doubleheader with non-conference opponent, Emory and fell in game two.
Game One VS Emory (6-5):
Starting pitcher
Charles Stephenson left Emory struggling in his five innings pitched. Seeing 17 batters, his first three in the top of the first set the tone for the game.
A single from
Joey Garcia and
Nick Brunswick put two on base as
Riley Uhls stepped to the plate. Singling through the left side he knocked in Garcia for the Vikings first run of the day and of the 2024 season.Â
The second inning held no runs or hits as the guys on the mound held steady. Emory finally saw the plate in the top of the third, tying the game at one after two doubles.
The Vikings answered in the bottom of the third with Uhls getting his second RBI, this time a double to center field scored Brunswick who reached on a huge triple before the close of the inning. However, it struck a spark for the team as they went on to score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Caleb Spikes' single to center began the momentum and
Garrett Lang followed him up with a double to the same spot that advanced Spikes two bases.
Tommy Bethel then made the noise with a two run double to score both of his teammates (4-1).
Mason Snyder and
Will Marquart came to the mound for the Vikings, but it was
Tyler Cassidy who finished off the game with two innings and the win!
The Eagles showed up in the top of the 6
th with three runs on two hits, one including a two-run homerun that tied the game at 4.
Berry looked to make a move in the bottom of the inning and Garcia was able to make that happen as Bethel reached on an error and
Alex Knapp was walked, a single by Garcia put the Vikings up one with two innings to go.
 Emory tied it in the top of the eighth with two on base, a single glided in a runner and tied the game for a third time at five.
It was the ninth where Cassidy saved the day and Uhls walk off single won the Vikings their home opener!
Game Two VS Emory (11-2):
Game two was claimed by the Eagles dominant performance in the first six innings.
Five Vikings Pitchers were unable to stop the bats of their opponents who were seeking revenge from the first game.
Although Berry was able to find eight hits compared to the Eagles eleven, they were only able to score two runs while the Eagles matched their hits with eleven runs.
Charles Pulaski had the only RBI for the Vikings and scored a run of his own with a stolen base while
Caleb Spikes stole twice.
In the end when the Vikings finally saw their teammates walk across the plate in the 6
th and 7th, it was too late to spark a comeback in the seven inning game.

The Vikings finish the series with Emory on the road in Atlanta to take on the Eagles one more time at 12:00 PM ET tomorrow.
