ATLANTA, Ga. - Vikings Baseball began their 2024 campaign with a series against the Eagles of Emory, where they capped off the series win with a 4-3 victory today.
Two Vikings homeruns stunned the Eagles in today's win after tough fought games yesterday.
Nicholas Angelakos earned his first collegiate win on the mound when he came in at a rough time with two runs on the board for Emory as they opened up with and RBI single and an RBI double in the first and second innings.
Until the top of the fifth both teams struggled offensively, but a solo homerun by
Alex Knapp ended the drought and gave the Vikings a run (2-1).
In the top of the seventh Garret Lang walked, Knapp reached on a single and advanced, and
Charles Pulaski saved the day with a three-run homer, his first collegiate homerun. This put Berry on top at 4-2 with two innings left to play.
Both teams continued to battle and zeros across the scoreboard in the eighth left Emory forced to make a move in the ninth. The Eagles held Berry in the top of the inning and looked for revenge with a walk-off win to give back what Berry gave to them in game one of yesterday's matchup.Â
An Emory homerun to start the bottom of the ninth looked promising for the home team but
Will Marquart came in relief. The senior did his duty and allowed no more hits as he closed out the game to earn his first save of the season.
The Vikings return to action against Pfeiffer on Friday February 17 for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM ET.
