Men's Basketball Conquers Hendrix in Quarterfinals

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Men's Basketball's win streak soars to 14 as they won the opening round of the SAA tournament against Hendrix College in blowout fashion, 96-46.

Braxton Benham led the team with 19-points in 19 minutes in today's contest.

Berry outscored the Warriors 50-24 in the paint for the whole night, which really set them apart.

Action started with seniors Blake Campbell and Chase Ellis adding five each to the board (10-2). The 12-0 Viking run ended five minutes into the game with a layup by Hendrix. However, the Warriors would never see a single digit margin again for the 2023-24 season.

The Vikings kept stacking on points and holding the away team off defensively. Benham reached the twenty-point lead with seven to go in the first half (37-17).

Benham continued to go off having 13 of the Vikings last nineteen points for Berry before halftime, up 52-29.

The scoring did not stop in the second half, normally the Vikings all season long have played a tight first half with teams and shut them out in the second half, but today the Vikings fought and put all forty minutes together.

Campbell and Benham combined for the first six of the second half and Jacob Morgan began to get hot on his way to an impressive 17-point game helping the Vikings reach the 30-point milestone with consecutive buckets (67-34).

In the final ten minutes a 12-0 run again from the Vikings, this time led by Canon Armstead pushed the Warriors way back, now down 46.

Ryan Luttrell hit the 50-point mark that put the crowd on their feet and the final three from Cameron Pope finalized the sweet first round victory to secure the host site for the remainder of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament.

The Vikings will host the remainder of the SAA Tournament and host the Tigers of Sewanee in an epic SAA rematch on Saturday, February 24 at 3:00 PM ET, winner advances to the Championship game on Sunday.
