MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Women's Soccer faced off in a pivotal SAA matchup with Centre College on Saturday, where they earned a 1-0 victory on Mountain Day.
Early on, the Vikings found themselves on the defense often, having to deal with 14 first half shots from the Colonels. The Berry defense held strong behind the leadership of Maggie Jones in goal who had a career-high, 17 saves.
The Viking attack was held in check for the first portion of the opening period, but that all changed when Nicole Knight came up big with an impeccable goal off a flawless ball from Savannah Courtenay in the 29th minute, causing the crowd to erupt.
Berry continued to hold strong defensively in the second half, denying the Colonels any goals despite their ten second half shots, due in large part to the efforts of Teresa Rodriguez, Annie Connors, and Kelsie Crosier.
The Viking's discipline defensively was a pivotal factor that made the difference down the stretch and allowed them to preserve a 1-0 victory.
With the win, Women's Soccer improves to 2-5-3 overall and 1-1 in SAA play. The Viking's next action will be at home against Hendrix College on October 11 at 5 PM.
