MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Women's Soccer was in action for an important match with the Hendrix Warriors on Friday evening, where the two teams would duel defensively in a 0-0 draw.
Early in the first half, a foul inside the box nearly spelled disaster for the Vikings as a penalty kick resulted. Coming in to save the day for the Vikings was reigning SAA Defensive Player of the Week, Maggie Jones, as she made a diving save against the Warrior penalty kick.
That crucial save was followed by a flurry of shots from the Vikings who shot a total of 10 first-half shots. The most threatening attack in the first half for the Vikings came when Nicole Knight powered a shot through the back of the net, but she was just offsides, leaving the game scoreless.
The strong defensive play continued for the Vikings, holding the Warriors to just one first-half shot.
The second half bought more of the same from both teams defensively. Olivia Bryan and Annie Connors led the charge for the Berry defense, winning numerous posessions for the Vikings throughout the second half, keeping the score knotted at 0-0. Offensively, Berry could not quite get going despite five second half shots and were plagued by offside calls in the second half.
The final minutes bought three late shots that were well played by the Berry defense, stranding the outcome to a 0-0 draw.
The Vikings will be in action again at home on October 13 against the Rhodes Lynx at 12 PM ET.Â
