MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Women's Soccer was at home for an SAA contest against the Rhodes Lynx. The Vikings put forth a valiant defensive effort, but a Rhodes penalty kick would seal the game and cause Berry to fall to Rhodes, 1-0.
The Vikings' outstanding defensive play would continue against Rhodes' high-powered offense. Berry limited Rhodes to just three shots in the first half thanks in large part to the efforts of Olivia Bryan, Kelsie Crosier, and Annie Connors, who repeatedly produced one-on-one stops to keep things even in the first half.
The Viking attack was not able to find a rhythm despite the stellar defensive play, only administering three shots for the game.
The second half would shape up to be a physical battle that had both teams still knotted up at 0-0 until minute 72 when a foul in the penalty box by the Vikings would award the Lynx a penalty kick. The Lynx would convert on the penalty kick, taking the lead 1-0.
As time continued to dwindle, the Vikings nearly had an answer when Giselle Aitken sent in a shot that nearly tied the game. Following that shot, the Lynx would control the clock until it read triple zeros, besting the Vikings 1-0.
The Vikings' next match will be on the road at Millsaps College on October 18 at 8:30 PM ET.
