The Berry Vikings Women's Soccer team fell behind in the first half. Still, they never surrendered in a 3-1 loss to the Washington and Lee University Generals Saturday for a neutral site contest in Bristol, Tenn.
The game played back and forth in the first half. The generals put on heavy attacking, but the Vikings never surrendered as goalkeeper
Maggie Jones notched nine saves to hold the Generals scoreless. Just before the first half ended, the Generals capitalized on a scoring opportunity to take the lead going into halftime. The Vikings came out strong in the second half as
Kendall Varitek delivered the Viking's first goal of the day, assisted by
Nicole Knight to draw level with the Generals. With a new sense of urgency, the Vikings had their share of scoring opportunities in the final moments of the second half. The Generals answered with a lone goal in the 66th minute of regulation to take the lead back. The Vikings saw the game slip away as the Generals tacked on one more insurance goal to end the contest.
The Berry Vikings will host the Huntingdon Hawks in conference play Sunday at Bob Pearson Field. Â
