Vikings Shutout Hendrix in Senior Day Sweep

MOUNT BERRY, Ga.- The No.5-ranked Berry Softball team shutout Southern Athletic Association opponent Hendrix 8-0 and 5-0 on Saturday for senior day. Not one Viking struck out in either game.
 
Game One: Berry 8 Hendrix 0
Morgan Frye got the Vikings (24-4, 11-0 SAA) on the board first with a two-run homer to center field, scoring Sydney Moroney in the process. Senior Aleeya Thornton started off the second inning with a triple firing up the dugout, then Paige Bennett singled up the middle to send Thornton home. Berry tacked on two more runs in the third, Frye seeing home plate for the second time on a Shelby Daniel ground out. Hendrix proceeded to load the bases with two outs and Anna Jackson was able to steal home, the Vikings now leading 5-0.
            Berry took advantage of defensive errors from the Warriors all game, and continued in the fourth inning when Frye scored on a passed ball. Hendrix loaded the bases again in the fifth inning, Berry looking to end the game early. Moroney was walked which sent Thornton home, then Frye continued her dominant day as she singled to score Bennett.
            Hannah Gore (8-0) pitched a five inning shutout in the circle only allowing two hits and striking out nine. Frye and Thornton both went three for three in game one.
 
Game two: Berry 5 Hendrix 0
            Blair Hall brought the offense to life in the second inning when she tripled to right center, Bennett grounded out to second base to bring her home, the Vikings taking the first lead of the game. Grace Hamilton also tripled to right center, which scored Thornton.
            Bennett singled up the middle in the third inning to score Jackson which would be the lone run in the third.
            Freshman Casey Holloway got her first career hit as a Viking as she singled to center field, adding an RBI for herself in Elly Bennett. Jackson batted in the last run of game two doubling to center field, scoring Holloway.
 
The Vikings will close out the series on Sunday at Kay Williams field, first pitch is set for noon.
