Jackson's Homers Lift Vikings to Sweep of Lynx

Anna Jackson became the first Berry softball player to hit three balls over the fence for homeruns in a single game as the No. 8 Vikings completed a Southern Athletic Association sweep of Rhodes, 14-1 (5) Sunday afternoon in Memphis.

After a Katie White RBI double, Jackson connected on a two-run blast in the first inning to give the Vikings (22-4, 9-0 SAA) a 3-0 lead. After White led off the fourth inning with a single, Jackson connected on another two-run blast to extend Berry's lead to 10-0. In the fifth, in what would be her last at-bat with the Vikings already up by enough to end the game early due to the run-rule, the junior connected on her third two-run homer of the game, this one coming with two out and again following a White hit. The bomb extended Berry's lead to 14-1, which would be the final score in the contest.

One other player in Berry history has three homers in a game, but Jackson becomes the first to have all three of her homers leave the yard as an inside the park home run was part of the three homer game on the previous occasion in 2011.

The three-homer game overshadowed White's three-RBI performance on a 3-for-3 day at the plate which raised her batting average to a team-leading .511. Morgan Frye had her fourth multi-hit game in a row as she improved to 10-for-16 on the week with seven RBI.

Danielle Sudick earned the win with three shutout innings against Rhodes (8-22, 1-11 SAA) in the circle before giving way to Casey Holloway and Quincy Prichard for the remaining two innings of the shortened contest.

But the day belonged to Jackson. The Suwanee, Ga., native took over the team lead in homers with eight and RBI with 29. While White led the country earlier this week in homers with seven, Jackson is now tied for the lead in homers nationally.

The Vikings will be back in action this Thursday as they take on Agnes Scott at Kay Williams Field for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. EDT.
