Berry baseball swept Pfeiffer in the first two games of the three game series to open the season Saturday afternoon at William R. Bowdoin Field, winning 21-8 and 3-1.
Game One: 21-8
The Vikings put up at least one run each inning of the game as they put the Falcons away after seven innings.
The sixth inning was a big inning as the Vikings put up 12 runs, seven hits, and seven walks.
Wesley Wade,
Zachary Hardee,
Ronnie Caricofe, and
Levi Cloud all had two-run RBIs with
John Poist and
Riley Uhls with RBIs bringing the score to the final margin.
In the first,
John Poist hit a double to right field and advanced to third on a bobble in the outfield.
John D'Amelio hit a liner to short left field to score Poist and get a run on the board early for the Vikings making it 1-0.
Joey Garcia hit a liner past the third baseman to put him on second.
Blake Hyman put down a sacrifice bunt to bring Garcia to third and Hardee hit a ground ball to right field to bring Garcia home to put the score at 2-0. Poist then executed a hit and run to bring Hardee to third with Wade bringing him home. D'Amelio up to bat with bases loaded had an RBI sacrifice fly to put the Vikings up 4-0 in the second inning.
In the third, Pfeiffer strung across some hits to bring the score to 4-3. The Vikings continued to bring the bats together in the fourth as Garcia hit a high fly to right field to score D'Amelio bringing the score to 6-3.
Blake Hyman hit a liner to left field to bring in
Ronnie Caricofe and Garcia, making it a comfortable 8-3 ball game.
The Falcons found some holes in the fifth and sixth to tighten the lead to one, 9-8 before the Vikings broke the game open.
Poist had a phenomenal game at the plate as he was 3-for-4 in game one.
Game Two: 3-1
The Vikings started early as Pendleton singled to center field and advanced on the throw as Wade was brought home, for the score of 1-0.
The Falcons brought in a run at the bottom of the third as
Caleb Spikes gunned a runner from right field at home to end the inning only allowing Pfeiffer to one run.
Poist hit a single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth and stole second to put himself in scoring position for the Vikings. Garcia broke it open for the Vikings with a two-run triple , making it 3-1.
Tyler Cassidy closed out the game, earning the save for the Vikings.
Patrick O'Rouke was the starting pitcher for the Vikings and gave only four hits to the Falcons and had five strikeouts throughout his six innings pitched to earn the win.
The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow with a start time of 1 p.m. to close the series against Pfeiffer.
