Berry Falls Short Against Mary Hardin-Baylor

Blake Campbell Returns with 30-Points

BELTON, Tex. - The Vikings fought hard in today's midday match-up to begin their Holiday stand against the UMHB who sits at 6-5 overall with a final score of 85-78.

Braxton Benham opened up the game with a jumper that was followed by an and-one from Blake Campbell who returned to action today after an injury earlier this season. The Vikings stood strong and answered all of the Cru's returning baskets and shot up as much as nine with eleven minutes to play when Drew Winegarden sunk a pair of free throws.

Slowly inching back in, UMHB gained their first lead of the game off a layup with seven minutes to go in the first half. Campbell did not let that last for very long as he nailed two free throws to reclaim the lead.

In the final minute and half of the half, Campbell went on a 7-point run to assist in his 30 overall points for the game and give his team the lead at 40-31.

Pushing the lead to eleven with a made three in the opening minutes of the second half, Campbell continued to play a strong roll for the Vikings. Until the 13:21 mark, Berry's defense failed to stop the Cru as they rolled a quick 18-2 run that landed them a five-point lead. Turnovers played a big part in the quick turnaround, UMHB held 27 total points for the night off of the Viking's mistakes.

Never giving up, Berry showed grit and tied the game at 58 with 6:37 to go. Some back-and-forth basketball led to a made three for the Cru that was followed by two made foul shots for a 5 point lead that Berry was not able to cut.

Catch your Vikings back in action tomorrow in Belton, Texas at 1:00 PM ET against Concordia University Texas.
