SALEM, Va. - The Berry Men's Basketball team fell in their final game of the tournament at Roanoke to the host, 79-58.
After going down by two in the opening minute,
Chase Ellis swished a three to put the Vikings on top 3-2 and begin a rhythm. Some back and forth baskets was followed by a Maroon 6-0 run before
Isaac Martin dropped in a bucket (14-9).
The tournament host added another run shortly after for a quick nine points that included a three with still 10 minutes to play in the first half.
Drew Winegarden broke the scoring drought for the Vikings but a scoreless three minutes by both teams created frustration.
Berry struggled to get baskets to fall before halftime while the Maroons increased their shooting percentage. At the half the score was 39-22, Roanoke.
After the half, the Maroons continued to dominate the paint as they outscored Berry 44-16 for the game.
Benham's effort with 23 points for the game would not be enough to battle back against the host and with the Maroons shooting almost 52% from the field it was hard to answer each of their buckets to cut the lead.
