Softball Shellacks Centre in Saturday Sweep

No. 13 Berry broke out the bats Saturday in Danville, Ky., with Anna Jackson driving in eight runs across the two games of the doubleheader as the Vikings defeated Centre, 15-1 (5) and 16-1 (5), in Southern Athletic Association softball action.

Game One: Berry 15, Centre 1 (5)
Blair Hall and Danielle Sudick pitched a combined no-hitter, and Anna Jackson was a single short of the cycle as the Vikings took a 15-1 win in the opening game of the day.

Jackson started her day with an RBI triple down the line in right in the first, then connected for a two-run homer to center in the second. She completed her three-hit game with an RBI double in the third.

Every starter had a hit for the Vikings in the contest as the Vikings combined for 20 hits in a game. Katie White, Morgan Frye, Shelby Daniel, Hall, Paige Bennett, and Sydney Moroney each had multi-hit days to join Jackson, with Daniel joining Jackson with three hits on the game. Frye connected for a no-doubt two-run homer in the third as part of a game with 10 extra-base hits for the Vikings.

Game Two: Berry 16, Centre 1
Morgan Frye made it a three-homer day with two more long balls in the second half of the doubleheader as the Vikings earned a 16-1 win.

Frye's leadoff homer in the top of the second opened the scoring for the Vikings (21-8, 11-0). Centre (6-25, 0-11) would tie the score in the bottom of the frame, but the Vikings scored six in the third. Anna Jackson ripped a two-run double into the left field corner one batter before Frye, who connected on a two-run blast to right center. Sydney Moroney would follow later in the inning with a two-run triple, and the rout was on.

Two-run doubles by Shelby Daniel and Paige Bennett preceeded a wild pitch that allowed Bennett to score to make it 12-1 in the fourth. In the fifth, Jackson brought home two with a triple, with Daniel singling home Jackson and Bennett scoring Daniel on a sacrifice fly to end the scoring.

Hannah Gore struck out seven in four innings of work in improving to 11-1 on the season with the win in the circle.

The two teams will wrap up their SAA series Sunday at noon.
