Rome, Ga. - The Berry College men's lacrosse Team fell 11-6 to the visiting Centre Colonels in their first Southern Athletic Association game of the season.
The Colonels come out hot scoring three straight goals before
Nick English and
Dillon Marchant closed the gap to one after back-to-back goals. Centre would find the back of the net once again with three minutes remaining in the first quarter to make the score 4-2, where it would stay heading into the 2nd.
As the second quarter began, both teams clamped down defensively for 13 minutes until Centre (3-3, 1-0) was able to break loose and score two in a row in under a minute to stretch their lead to four and make the halftime score 6-2.
The Vikings (5-3, 0-1) and Colonels went back and forth in the 3rd quarter. Two goals from
Tyler Banfield and a goal from
Joey Cuthbert were all answered by Centre as the score sat 9-5 headed into the fourth.
A single score from
Michael McKenzie three minutes into the 4th would be the final goal for Berry as they would fall 11-6.
Rob Maraski would finish with 4 saves, and his counterpart, David Gottesmnan would tack on a save as well.
The Vikings will travel, next Friday, to Conway, Ark., where they will take on the Hendrix Warriors in their second SAA matchup.
