Berry's men's lacrosse team racked up its first Southern Athletic Association win of the season on the road in Conway, Ark., against Hendrix by a final of 12-10.
Hendrix (4-4, 0-1) started the game out by scoring 59 seconds into the game. The Vikings would then score three in a row from
Tyler Banfield,
Jackson Blaylock, and
Joey Cuthbert. Hendrix would score one more to cut the lead to two and make the score 4-2 heading into the second quarter.
Michael McKenzie and
Noah Steiner would score two quick goals before the Warriors would score three back-to-back goals to cut the game to one, 6-5. Cuthbert would score another with 47 seconds left in the half to give him a hat trick and send the game to halftime with the scoreboard reading 7-5.
The Vikings would come out of halftime firing on all cylinders scoring two straight from the hands of McKenzie and Banfield. Hendrix would answer with two of their own to make the score 9-7 heading into the fourth.
The Vikings would go into the fourth on fire, scoring three straight, but the Warriors would fire back scoring three of their own and holding the Vikings scoreless in the final eight minutes of play. However,
RJ Maraski would make the needed saves as the Vikings held on for the 12-10 win to improve to 1-1 in SAA play.
The Vikings will travel to Memphis to take on the Rhodes Lynx on Sunday at 2 p.m.
