Mt. Berry, Ga. - Strong pitching all around and a hard-swinging offense proved to be too much for the Pfeiffer Falcons, as Berry swept a doubleheader Saturday afternoon taking game one 4-1 and game two 11-1.
Game One:
Patrick O'Rourke (2-0) added another win under his belt, pitching seven innings, recording nine strikeouts, five hits, and zero walks. Will Macolino relieved O'Rourke in the eighth inning, tallying one strikeout. Will Marquart came in to start the ninth inning, but was relieved by Mason Carnes after loading the bases. Carnes finished things off for Berry with two strikeouts to earn a save.
Jack Poist, Dalton Smith, and Spence Johns all recorded two hits. Johns also recorded his 200th career hit.
Poist scored on an error by the third baseman, giving the Vikings an early lead in the first inning.
During the third inning, Johns singled home Poist. The next at bat, John D'Amelio singled to left field, scoring Smith, putting Berry up 3-0.
In the seventh inning, Zac Hardee scored on a Johns single giving Berry the first win of the doubleheader.
Game Two:
Tyler Cassidy (2-1) pitched five innings, recorded four strikeouts, and five hits. Will Macolino came in to pitch in the sixth inning, striking out two batters, allowing zero hits. Andrew Norred pitched the final two innings, striking out two, allowing one hit as Berry allowed just one run for the second game in a row.
Pfeiffer recorded a homerun in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Vikings.
After a four inning scoring drought for Berry, Joey Garcia scored on a sacrifice fly to left field from Jack Poist. John Poist scored on an error by second base, putting the Vikings ahead by one run.
John D'Amelio and Andrew Pendelton scored on a sacrifice bunt from Wesley Wade, thanks to a throwing error from the third baseman. Wade slid into home off a Garcia sacrifice fly.
Spence Johns doubled to center field, sending home Dalton Smith, Johns then scored off a D'Amelio single in the seventh inning, D'Amelio added another run Berry up by six runs.
Pfeiffer continued to lack answers for Berry, as Jack Poist, Dalton Smith, and Zac Warren tacked on the final three runs of the night.
The Vikings and the Falcons play the final game of the series Sunday at noon at William R. Bowdoin Field.
