Vikings Walk-Off Pfeiffer in Wild Affair

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- The closing act of a thriller at William R. Bowdoin Field did not disappoint on Sunday afternoon, as a bunt from Zachary Hardee squeezed home teammate Blake Hyman to top Pfeiffer, 9-8. The walk-off win solidified the Vikings second- straight weekend sweep of the year.

With two outs in the top of the first inning, Pfeiffer managed to string together three hits and scored the game's first two runs. The Falcons would soon extend that lead by an additional run in the third inning after registering three more hits.

The 3-0 Falcons lead would soon become a 5-3 deficit in the bottom half of the 3rd inning. Hits from Trace Cate and Hardee set-up Jack Poist who drove them both in with a single to left-center field. Three more runs would follow in the inning after RBIs from Spence Johns and Joey Garcia.

The Vikings weren't done, Triples from Spence Johns and Andrew Pendleton would make scoring runs easy for Berry in the 4th and 5th innings, plating two while giving up two in the field to make the score 7- 4. That score would hold true until the 7th inning with Pfeiffer due up to bat.

A couple of infield singles and unfortunate breaks for Berry led to four runs being scored in favor of the Falcons in the top of the 7th inning to give the guests an 8-7 lead.

After a quick answer in the 7th to tie the game, the Vikings found themselves in a prime position to score in the bottom of the 9th. A Hyman bunt single and an error on Wesley Wade's sacrifice bunt attempt put runners on the corners with the ball never leaving the infield. After an intentional walk and a strikeout, Hyman would score the win-sealing run just a few pitches later via the squeeze-bunt from Hardee.

Mason Carnes was credited with a well-deserved win, pitching 2.2 innings, striking out two and holding the Falcons scoreless en route to the victory. Jack Poist was an offensive stand-out for the Vikings, collecting three hits and two RBIs.

The Vikings look to secure Coach Beasley's 700th career win Tuesday at Piedmont. First pitch from Demorest, Ga. is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
