Softball Splits Series at Maryville

Maryville, TN. – The softball team split their doubleheader at Maryville on Sunday, taking game one 6-4 and losing game two 14-6.
 
Madison Hollis (2-0) got the start in the circle in game one while Meredith Holland got her first start of the season in game two. Aleeya Thronton led the Vikings with hits in the first game with three with three Vikings contributing two hits apiece in game two. Bayleigh Masterson had two homers in game two alone.
 
Game one started out strong for the Vikings as they took an early 1-0 lead in the first following a single from Morgan Frye to score Hannan Razeq. The offensive performance in the fourth inning, which started with a single from Shelby Daniel to score Abbey Gamble, put them up 4-0.
 
Maryville threatened in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs, but Berry was able to fight off the Scots and walk away with the 6-4 victory.
 
Game two saw a lot of offensive attention, as Maryville connected with 16 hits and Berry with 12. Masterson gave Berry the early 1-0 lead in the first, sending one over the left center fence, but Maryville quickly adjusted and put up five runs in the second inning.
All tied up 5-5 in the fourth followed by a sacrifice fly from Daniel to score Thornton, the Scots added eight runs that would ultimately seal the deal for the Scots. Masterson's second homer came late in the fifth, but Maryville would take the 14-6 win.
