Rome, Ga. – The No. 10 ranked Berry College softball team opened up the 2021 season with a 3-0 victory over Piedmont College on Wednesday.
Sophomore
Madison Hollis (1-0) got the start in the circle for Berry, pitching all seven innings and striking out six.
Freshman
Morgan Frye made her first college appearance and with her first at bat, sent one over center field to put the Vikings on top 3-0 in the second.
Meghan Hunt and
Riley Jackson also connected with a hit a piece.
Following Frye's homer, Berry led for the remainder of the game, but Piedmont threatened with a couple of baserunners late following a single in the sixth from Rebekah Stegmayer and a single in the seventh from Mackenzie Davis, but the Vikings' defense prevailed and shut out the Lions.
Berry is back in action on Saturday, February 13 when they travel to Maryville, Tennessee to take on the Maryville Scots. To keep up with the latest Berry College softball news, follow the team on Twitter @BerryVikings or @BerrySoftball.
