The Berry women's basketball team got off to a good start but succumbed to stiff defensive pressure as the Vikings were handed a 71-50 non-conference defeat by visiting Asbury on Saturday afternoon at The Cage.
The loss evens the Vikings record to 4-4 overall heading into another non-conference clash Thursday, Dec. 16 when Berry visits Toccoa Falls.
Against Asbury's Eagles, the Vikings jumped out to a 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter but was outscored 18-7 in the second period as Asbury's defense took Berry out of its game – the Vikings ended the game with 38 turnovers – to take a 31-21 advantage at the break and take control of the game.
Jayda Wood led Berry with 13 points and
Sydney Blankenship added 10, while
McKenna Lentych led the Vikings under the glass with 11 rebounds.
