The Berry College women's basketball team fell on the road Saturday in the season opener when Piedmont College handed the Vikings a 70-61 defeat in the USA/SAA Classic in Demorest, Ga.

             The two teams kept it even throughout the first half, with four different lead changes in the with Piedmont holding a slim 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter Berry's offense turned up the tempo pushing past the Lions for the lead as the Vikings took a 33-28 edge going into halftime. 

             Coming out of the half, the Vikings continued to keep the Lions in check and held a 57-44 lead heading into the final period. 

             But the fourth quarter saw the Lions gain control as Piedmont outscored the Vikings 26-4 over the final 10 minutes to seal the win.

            Faith Humphrey led the Vikings with 21 points and Kennedy Moore had nine rebounds. 

            The Vikings are back in action against Lagrange College on Sunday in Demorest, Ga.
