The Berry men's basketball team overcame a halftime deficit to rally for a 71-68 road win in the Vikings' season opener Friday night in North Carolina over non-conference foe Brevard.
The victory also marked the first career win for Berry interim head coach
Trevor Lydic.
Trailing 37-31 at the break, the Vikings kept chipping away at the Tornadoes lead and with 3:40 left to play, senior
Austin Brooks scored on a layup, was fouled and hit the free throw to give Berry a 65-64 lead the Vikings would never relinquish.
Brooks ended the game leading all scorers with 27 points, hitting 8 of 16 shots from the floor and connecting on 9 of 11 free throws.
Chase Ellis came off the bench to finish with 12 points and
Michael Johnson also reached double figures with 11.
The Vikings remain on the road, heading to Misenheimer, N.C., for a meeting with Pfeiffer on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
