Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Completes the Weekend with a Dominant Victory over Hendrix

ROME, Ga. -- The Berry Vikings continued their dominance over the Hendrix warriors Saturday afternoon beating them 72-56.

Berry College came out swinging on offense scoring the first six points of the game, but the Viking's offense was not their only strength; the defense was a key factor, keeping the Warriors at an arm's length away the majority of the game. To start the game, the Warriors only connected on 1-11 from the field and 19-57 overall.

"I thought we guarded Seth Stanley (who added 20 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors) really well, not just with one person, but with all five players that were on the court," said head coach Mitch Cole. "Overall, for the weekend, we played two really good defensive games."

For the Vikings, junior Michael Johnson led the way with 16 points in the first half alone. Overall, he tallied 18 points with three rebounds. Micah Johnson and Chase Ellis each added 13 points each with Johnson also tallying 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. As a team, Berry shot 46.4 percent from the field and grabbed 41 rebounds.

The Vikings wrapped up the first half with a 44-29 lead and the second half was no different, maintaining a consistent double-digit lead the remainder of the game.

"Offensively, we started clicking in the second half, moving the ball and being more unselfish," said Cole. "I thought the guys shared the ball better than we have in the first half of our games. We want to continue to improve week-by-week and be playing at our peak in February."
The Vikings are back in action next weekend when they travel to Rhodes. To keep up the latest men's basketball news, follow the team on Twitter @BerryVikings or @BerryMBB_.
