JACKSON, Miss. — The Berry College men's basketball team kicked off the 2020-21 season on Friday night, defeating the Millsaps College Majors 73-40 on the road.

Three Vikings scored double digits including Drew Jones, Austin Brooks and Dawson Wehunt. Jones led the way in scoring with 21 points, shooting 6-8 from the three-point range, followed by Austin Brooks and Dawson Wehunt with 12 points each. Michael Johnson led the team in rebounds with nine.

As a team, the Vikings dominated from the start. Millsaps scored first, taking an early lead, but that was quickly followed by a three from Jones. From there, the Vikings went on an 8-0 run and led the Majors 34-17 at the half. Berry continued their momentum in the second period, connecting with 61.5% (16-26) of their shots and outscoring Millsaps 39-23. Overall, Berry shot 48.2% (27-56) from the field and 81.8% (9-11) from the free throw line.

The Vikings are back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. EST as they face off with Millsaps once again to complete the weekend.
