Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. — The Berry College men's basketball team advanced to the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) title game for the second time in the past three years on Saturday night, defeating Hendrix College 72-61 behind 17 point performances from seniors Ethan Haslam and Caleb Haynes.
The Vikings advance to face the top-seeded Centre Colonels in Danville tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. for the SAA championship.
With the win, Berry ties their total from last season at 19 which was the most overall wins in the Vikings' Division III era and the most since the 2008-09 season.
Behind Haslam and Haynes, Micah Johnson (14) and Austin Brooks (11) also added double-digit performances.
Berry's 51.6% shooting percentage in the second half, including a 41.7% clip from range, helped the team overcome a forgettable start to the game. The Vikings shot just 37.9% in the opening period and connected on just 1-of-10 three-pointers and 50% of their foul shots. Hendrix kept pace and forced a 26-26 tie at the break.
Haslam led the way in the second period, hitting three triples to a team-leading 13 second-half points. Brooks connected on 4-for-4 of his shots down low, adding nine points in the second half. Brooks and Haynes dominated down low, helping Berry outscore Hendrix 36-22 in the paint.
