Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Caleb Haynes posted his 1,000th career point on Saturday night, leading the Berry men's basketball team to a 72-69 victory over the Belhaven Blazers.
With the win, Berry improves to 7-2 overall while Belhaven fell to 1-5.
Haynes led three double-digit scorers for Berry, notching 24 points on 11-for-14 shooting. He also added six rebounds. Drew Jones and DJ Estes also added 10 points apiece.
The Vikings had a strong opening period, again led by Haynes who scored 18 first-half points. As a team, the Vikings shot 52.9% from the field and 55.6% from distance in the opening half to take a 43-35 lead into the break. Belhaven gained ground in the second period with the help of 11 Vikings fouls. Haynes was called for a foul with under a minute to play that sent Belhaven's Kelvin Pruitt to the line to pull the Blazers to within one. Haynes responded on the other end of the floor with a layup at the 10-second mark to open a three point lead. A Belhaven offensive foul would end the game and give Berry its seventh win of the year.
Berry closes competition in Memphis on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. against McMurry.
