Box Score ROME, Ga. — The Berry College men's basketball team showed flashes of dominance against the No. 6 Emory University Eagles, but eventually dropped the team's home opener 99-85 on Tuesday night.
With the loss, Berry falls to 1-1 on the year. Emory improved to 2-0.
Micah Johnson led the way offensively, shooting 8-for-12 from the field for 20 points. DJ Estes followed off the bench with 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting from distance. As a team, the Vikings shot nearly 52% and forced 18 Eagles turnovers.
Berry started out strong, jumping out to an eight point lead three minutes into the game. The Eagles fought back late to take a narrow 48-46 lead into the break. Emory took control in the second half, hitting nine three-pointers.
The Vikings open competition at the Vikings Tipoff Tournament on Friday at 7:00 p.m. against Warren Wilson. Berry will face Bob Jones at noon on Saturday.
