Berry Men's Basketball Rally Falls Short vs. Hendrix

ROME, Ga. -- Blake Scherrman missed a three-pointer as time expired as the Berry College men's basketball team fell to Hendrix College, 65-62, on Friday night. 

The loss dropped the Vikings to 7-12 overall and 4-5 in the Southern Athletic Association. The win improved the Warriors to 3-17 and 2-7. 

Owen Jacobs' 12 points led the Berry offensive effort. Jacobs was 5-of-9 shooting and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. He also grabbed six rebounds in the contest.

Three other players scored double-digit points in the loss: Caleb Johnson, Alton McCloud and Scherrman. 

McCloud scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for BC, shooting 4-of-5 on the night. He sank one three-pointer and was 2-of-5 from the free throw line. McCloud also passed six assists. 

Johnson and Scherrman each added 10 points. Johnson was 5-of-9 from the field. Scherrman was 4-of-12 shooting, added two three-pointers and grabbed four rebounds. 

Hendrix led at the half, 35-29. With just under ten minutes to play, Scherrman made a three-pointer to give the Vikes a 51-50 lead. 

The lead then changed five times. Hendrix's Preston Smith made a three-point shot with forty-nine seconds to play, giving the Warriors a 63-62 lead.

The score moved to 65-62 with twenty seconds left. Back-to-back three-point attempts by Lee McCloud and Scherrman in Berry's last two possessions of the game missed, sealing the Warriors' victory. 

For Hendrix, John Ogle scored 14 points, shooting 6-of-7 from the field. Ogle was also 2-of-3 from the free throw line and grabbed four rebounds and two steals.

The Warriors shot 45.3-percent (24-of-53) to the Vikings' 41.7-percent (25-of-60). Hendrix also led the game in rebounds (40-38) and steals (11-8) and forced 20 Berry turnovers to their 19.

The Vikings will take on Rhodes College in their next SAA match-up on Sunday, Feb. 7. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at the Cage Center.
