CONWAY, Ark. – Owen Jacobs surpassed 1,000 career points and Lee McCloud scored 18 points as the Berry College men's basketball team defeated Hendrix College, 75-71, on Friday night.
The win improved the Vikings to 7-8 overall and 4-1 in the Southern Athletic Association, moving their winning streak to four in a row. The loss dropped the Warriors to 1-15 and 0-4.
Jacobs scored seven points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the victory for BC, surpassing his 1000th collegiate point by halftime. BC led 41-36 at the break.
McCloud's 18 points led the Berry offense. He was 6-of-10 shooting, sank three 3-pointers, and grabbed six rebounds.
Blake Scherrman added 14 points in the win as well. Scherrman was 3-for-3 from the field, made one 3-pointer, and was 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
Nick Marder and Caleb Johnson rounded out the BC offensive effort with nine and eight points respectively.
"This was a quality win for us on the road," said Berry Head Coach Jeff Rogers. "I really liked how our guys remained composed--despite getting off to a slow start--and stayed composed when things got tight at the end. We're winning games with our defense; that's encouraging, and we strive to improve every day."
For the Warriors, John Ogle scored 18 points. Ogle was 7-of-14 shooting, sank two three-pointers, and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Vikings shot 40-percent (20-of-50) to the Warriors' 36.5-percent (23-of-63). Berry also led the game in rebounds (45-25) and steals (5-4), while Hendrix finished ahead in assists (15-13) and blocks (11-3).
BC travels to Memphis, Tennessee to take on Rhodes College in their next SAA match-up on Sunday, February 7. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
