Box Score ATLANTA -- Junior Emma Cook had season-highs of 29 points and 14 rebounds as Berry College defeated Piedmont College, 65-52, on Sunday in the SAA/USA South Challenge.
Cook--who recorded her first double-double of the young season--was 11-of-22 shooting, made 3-of-5 3-pointers, and converted her four free throws. Cook's 29-point output is the second best of her Viking career: She tallied 31 in an 80-60 at Birmingham-Southern last year.
After the win, Berry moved to 3-3 on the season. Piedmont dropped to 1-3.
Imani Smith added 13 points and grabbed six rebounds for BC. She was 4-of-9 from the field and drained two 3-pointers.
The Vikings led 31-30 at halftime and held a 47-43 advantage leading to the final quarter. BC held a 14-point lead--its largest of the game--twice in the final 2:01 of regulation.
Berry shot 36-percent (23-64) to the Lions' 31-percent (19-62). BC led in the 3-pointers (7-4) and had a big edge in rebounding (55-40). Valerie McLure had 10 rebounds and added eight points for the Vikes.
"We played a complete game today, and this was a very good win against an experienced team," said Berry Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "Emma played very strong today. Our bench play was productive as Imani--along with our freshmen point guards--pitched in and gave us continuity on offense in Zarriah Pierce's absence."
Carlie Shields tallied a team-best 14 points to pace Piedmont.
